WHAT WE DID

This project entailed crafting and installing a 12mm steel plate balustrade to a newly-built concrete staircase. The client wanted a consistent, blackened industrial look without the typical blue-grey grain of steel.

To achieve this, we visited six different suppliers to find the perfect material which would respond best to the blackening process, and then proceeded into a typical R&D phase to ensure that the final finish aligned with the client’s expectations and architectural intent.

Whilst the concrete stairs passed compliance standards, they weren’t perfectly straightpresenting a challenge, as our balustrades had joins which needed to be perfect. As each panel was carefully lifted into place, it was lined up, adjusted and then bolted into place to create a seamless join to the previous unit.
